Future potential and ambitions on board
First Captain
For Natasa Ilic, 2025 began with a fresh start: in January, she joined Rivertech. The kick-off event in Kehl was her first introduction to the company and her future colleagues. With a background in housekeeping and a strong dose of ambition, she is eager to start her journey as a Sailor aboard the Excellence Pearl. Her ultimate goal? To one day earn the title of First Captain.
From Housekeeping to the great outdoors
“Before I joined Rivertech, I spent three years working in housekeeping, including one year as Head of Housekeeping on a passenger ship. I worked nine months straight each year and felt it was time for a new challenge. I wanted to be more physically active and have the opportunity to grow within a company.”
She found that opportunity at Rivertech. “I’m just at the beginning of my adventure as a Sailor, but who knows… maybe one day I’ll be able to call myself First Captain!” She says with a smile.
Exploring the world
Growing up in Serbia, working and travelling didn’t always go hand in hand. “I’m still young, and I want to see more of the world. This job gives me that opportunity while also allowing me to build my future.” In housekeeping, she saw little room for career growth, but at Rivertech, things feel different. “I finally feel like I can develop myself and learn new skills. That gives me so much energy!”
A warm welcome
The kick-off event in Kehl was the perfect introduction to her new employer. “Everything was well-organized, everyone was genuinely interested in one another and there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere. I immediately felt seen and valued.”
During the event, she not only met her colleagues but also learned about the company’s vision. “It was inspiring to hear about Rivertech’s growth and the many new ships joining the fleet. The positive feedback from employees who have been with the company for a long time gave me a lot of confidence. If they are so happy here, I know I’ve made the right choice.”
Active on shore and on board
“In my free time I enjoy running and going to the gym in Serbia. When I’m on board, running is my favorite way to explore a city. So far, Strasbourg and Vienna are my absolute favorites.”
Ready for a new adventure
Even before the season started, Natasa had the chance to visit her future workplace. “I’ve already been on the Excellence Pearl, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s reassuring to know where I’ll be working.” Still, there was one last hurdle. “I had to wait for my visa approval, which was a bit stressful. But thankfully, everything is sorted now. I can’t wait to meet my new colleagues and gain lots of new knowledge.”
With a strong sense of enthusiasm and ambition, Natasa is ready for her new adventure at Rivertech. “I’m beyond excited! Let the sailing season begin!”
At Rivertech, sailors work in a team on board our river cruisers, directed by the First Officer or the Second Captain. As Rivertech manages the fleet for esteemed English and German speaking tour operators that wish to see spotless and impeccable ships, and service with a personal touch, your role is evident. Your work and presence are very visible to the guests, and your welcome aboard smile is priceless.
The multi-cultural team of sailors is responsible for the exterior, the deck and captain’s assistance during mooring and lock operations and safety drills. For the guests you are extra important on embarkation day and in emergency situations, as you are qualified and well-trained for this.
Task and responsibilities
