Highest command on board and visible for the guests
First Captain
As an engineer on board, my main responsibility is to keep the ship’s technical equipment running smoothly and efficiently. I’m the go-to person for all things technical, so I support both the crew and our guests with any issues that come up. My primary focus is on ensuring the ship stays operational and that all essential systems are maintained. But it’s not just about the big stuff; I also handle smaller technical problems and respond to guest requests. Whether it’s fixing a minor glitch or tackling a more complex issue, my job is to make sure everything operates seamlessly, so everyone on board has an enjoyable journey.
At Rivertech, we operate ships for top-tier clients like AmaWaterways, Excellence, Phoenix, and Saga. As an engineer here, you’ll play a crucial role in representing our company and ensuring we meet our customers’ high standards. We’re looking for someone with strong technical skills who is also friendly, patient, and hands-on.
Every day, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing the ship’s engine room and handling a variety of technical issues on board. You’ll also be the main point of contact for technical suppliers, making sure everything runs smoothly. This role combines technical expertise with solid administrative skills. If you’re passionate about problem-solving and enjoy the idea of working on luxury river cruisers, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
I chose this job because it is exciting; I never get bored because every day at work brings something new and unexpected. I enjoy going to sleep never knowing what the next day will bring. The job offers me a good work-life balance. My passions in my free time include long drives with the family in nature (forest roads, a bit of off-roading if necessary), making a barbecue in the wild, having a picnic, and exploring routes in the mountains.
What I like about my job is the unexpected nature of it. Other things I appreciate are that I get to see new places, the schedule is nice, and I have great colleagues and captains. We always help each other, whether it’s me helping them or them helping me; this creates a great atmosphere that makes the work more enjoyable.
People should consider Rivertech because it’s an ever-growing company, so people are always needed. The company is fair with salaries (never late in 6 years since I’ve been with the company). The support from corporate and management is good. Of course, there is always room for improvement, but there are no major issues.
