Without a sailor, the ship will not sail

Ionut Melter

Sailor

All hands on deck, and a smile for free

At Rivertech, sailors work in a team on board our river cruisers, directed by the First Officer or the Second Captain. As Rivertech manages the fleet for esteemed English and German speaking tour operators that wish to see spotless and impeccable ships, and service with a personal touch, your role is evident. Your work and presence are very visible to the guests, and your welcome aboard smile is priceless.

The multi-cultural team of sailors is responsible for the exterior, the deck and captain’s assistance during mooring and lock operations and safety drills. For the guests you are extra important on embarkation day and in emergency situations, as you are qualified and well trained for this.

A personal word from Ionut

I chose this job because it offers the incredible opportunity to see beautiful landscapes every day and meet new people from all over the world. Working on an inland passenger ship allows me to visit different places in my free time and learn about various lifestyles. I enjoy the daily challenges of this role, as they help me learn new things and grow professionally toward my dream of becoming a captain.

When I’m not on the ship, I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes. It’s a creative passion that I can share with friends and family. Another hobby is photography; I enjoy capturing the beauty of landscapes and different environments. Traveling is also important to me, as it allows me to explore diverse cultures and experience the world, both on the job and at home with my loved ones.

What I like most about my job is being out on the water, surrounded by nature, and meeting a variety of people. I appreciate the opportunities I’ve had to quickly advance in rank, and it’s rewarding to see my hard work pay off. Being part of a great team makes every day enjoyable, and I love learning something new while contributing to a larger mission. It keeps me motivated and excited for what’s next!
